Rawalpindi – Westridge police arrested a kidnapper and recovered an abductee from his captivity, informed a police spokesman on Monday.
The accused named Pirzada had allegedly kidnapped Asad Ullah and demanded Rs30 million as ransom from the victim family for his release, he added.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court also granted police a seven-day physical remand of kidnapper Pirzada.
According to police spokesman, Westridge police, following the instructions of SSP Potohar Division Syed Ali, carried out a raid in a hideout and held a kidnapper Pirzada who had abducted a citizen Asad Ullah for ransom. Police rescued the abducted person and shifted the kidnapper to police station for further investigation, he said.
The kidnapper, who picked up the citizen along with other accomplices, was traced by police while using latest technology, he said adding that the kidnapper and his father are involved in usury.
He said father of Asad Ullah borrowed Rs600,000 from Feroz Khan, father of kidnapper Pirzada. He said the accused kidnapped Asad Ullah for not paying back the debt of his father. Police are carrying out raids to arrest other accused involved in the crime, he said.
CPO Muhammad Ahsan Younas, in a statement, said those involved in business of usury are waging war against Allah and Prophet (PBUH) and police are committed to take legal action against such criminals. He said no one would be allowed to usurp their rights.
Earlier, a team of police produced accused Pirzada before Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Number 1 Special Judge Shaukat Kamal Dar and sought 15-day physical remand of him for further investigation. However, the judge only granted seven-day remand of accused.
Similarly, Naseerabad police, under command of SHO SI Kamran Jamshed Kiani, arrested a man namely Muhammad Sarwar in an attempted rape case.
Separately, an additional and sessions judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka sent a murder convict behind the bars for life besides ordering him to pay Rs500,000 as compensation to the victim family. The judge also awarded ten-year imprisonment along with Rs100,000 fine to convict in another attempted murder case.
The convict identified as Sadaqat Hussain alias Kala was held by Rawat police after he shot dead a man Liaquat Ali and injured four other accused in May 2020 in limits of Police Station Rawat.
