ISLAMABAD – The PTI govt is planning to summon legislation specific joint session of the Parliament to sail through controversial bills, which were blocked in Opposition-dominated Senate.
These over two dozen bills could not be passed by the government side within the stipulated 90 days period from the upper house of the Parliament.
The government in previous National Assembly session forwarded all these bills for upcoming joint sitting in order to approve it with majority of votes.
The Opposition would strongly resist approving these bills ,as it strongly opposed referring these bills to the joint session.Political experts viewed that the PTI’s government, which enjoys majority in the two houses combined together, taking the plea under Article-70 of the Constitution would legislate these bills in a legislation-specific joint session of the Parliament.
The bills referred to the joint session including ‘Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Muslim Family Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 (Amendment in Section 4)’, ‘National College of Arts Institute Bill, 2021’, ‘Privatization Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Pakistan Academy of Letters (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Corporate Restructuring Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Financial Institutions (Secured Transactions) (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘SBP Banking Services Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Loans for Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Purposes (Amendment) Bill’, ‘Maritime Security Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Port Qasim Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Gwadar Port Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2021’ and others.
