Revenue officials’ strike enters fifth day

Rawalpindi   –  Tens of hundreds of landowners and other people continue to suffer for the fifth day on Monday, following a pen-down strike by the land revenue officers, protesting torture on a Naib Tehsildar Malik Javed by some landlords last week.

Similarly, the lawyers including Punjab Bar Council and Islamabad Bar Association are up in the arms against police for lodging a case against a lawyer Mehran Ijaz Anwar Chaudhry under terrorism charges. 

The strike by the Patwaris, Girdawars, Naib Tehsildars and Tehsidlars has created great difficulties for the visiting public to Land Revenue Department, Rawalpindi for official work. Scores of mutations, power of attorneys, issuance of ownership documents of land and other works have been delayed in Tehsil Office Raja Bazaar as well as in other offices of land revenue officers due to strike.

“We just want police to arrest Mehran Ijaz Anwar Chaudhry, the lawyer who along with his accomplices subjected Naib Tehsildar Malik Javed under to torture in Rawalpindi district courts last week,” said Anjuman Patwarian Divisional President Malik Kamran. He said the other accused are also scooting free yet despite registration of a case against them under terrorism charges with Police Station (PS) Civil Lines.

 Earlier, a meeting of officials of Land Revenue Department was also held in Tehsil Office Raja Bazaar. The meeting was attended by scores of Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, Girdawars and Patwaris. 

During the meeting, the elected representatives of land revenue officers condemned the laxity on part of the police which failed in arresting the accused despite passage of many days. 

Meanwhile, Islamabad Bar Council also urged the police to cancel the FIR registered against Mehran Ijaz Anwar Chaudhry advocate and others. 

“IBC is standing with Mehran Ijaz Anwar Chaudhry at this hard time,” said the Secretary of bar Hafiz Liaquat Manzoor Kamboh advocate.
