Malir SSP Rao Anwar said they looking for Abdul Karim Sarosh Siddiqui, a senior commander of militant outfit Ansarul Sharia. Anwar claimed Siddiqui is the mastermind of the Eid-day assassination attempt on Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Khawaja Izharul Hasan.
At one point, Siddiqui was a student of applied physics at Karachi University.
The SSP shared the following number for the public to inform authorities if they see or hear information about the suspect: 0300-2023318.
Sources said the police have nabbed at least eight suspects in raids in the posh Defence locality as well as Malir and Sohrab Goth after an earlier raid today resulted in the death of a policeman and escape of Siddiqui.
The raid, conducted in the city’s Kaneez Fatima Society locality, was conducted along with personnel of intelligence agencies on a tip-off.
Anwar said they were informed about the presence of terrorists in a house in the neighbourhood after which they raided the area.
“Terrorists fired from the rooftop when police reached the place,” he said.
Anwar added that the assailants managed to flee from the area.
He had informed earlier that the alleged terrorists were involved in recent attacks on police personnel.
According to the police, the deceased police official was identified as Ijaz and the injured as Khalid.
Meanwhile, two bodies were found from Karachi’s Ittehad Town area and Shafiq Morr Block 15 late Sunday night, informed rescue sources.
In Pakpattan, Punjab, a suspected robber was killed during an encounter and two of his accomplices managed to escape in an alleged police encounter near Chak Bodla.
Police said that deceased was killed by his accomplices’ gunfire. A pistol and bullets were recovered from the deceased.
