KARACHI: The Senate Committee on Human Rights on Tuesday asked police to conduct a thorough investigation regarding the Karachi knife attacker and apprehend him before more women are hurt.
During a session of the Senate Committee on Human Rights, members grilled the police regarding updates on the case and when the suspect will be brought to book.
DIG East informed members of the committee that police had investigated forty patients from three mental hospitals. Sahiwal’s Wasim, who was said to be the key suspect in the knife attacks, was in possession of 16 sims.
According to the police, Wasim had not made one call to Karachi neither had he received any from the city.
Police further briefed members of the committee that some criminal groups wanted to have barriers installed in Karachi’s streets, using the attacks on women in the metropolis as an excuse.
To that, committee head Nasreen Jalil asked whether it was wrong to have barriers installed in streets.
Police stated that they had also arrested militants belonging to political parties’ armed groups and said that they would not let barriers be installed in the city’s streets.
Senator Farhatullah Babar expressed concern over the issue of barriers in Karachi.
Members of the Senate Committee advised police to not look for connections in the various incidences of women being attacked rather focus more on conducting the investigation thoroughly and taking into account all aspects of it.
