Shehbaz forms committee to address school fee hike complaints

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Monday constituted a special committee to address the complaints about unlawful annual increase in tuition fee by some of the private schools.

The special committee, headed by Additional Chief Secretary Punjab, Shamail Ahmad Khawaja, held a meeting at Civil Secretariat, here on Monday.

Punjab Examination Commission Chairman, Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Secretary Schools Education Punjab Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik, Secretary Higher Education Punjab Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan, deputy secretaries, Saba Asghar Ali, Abdul Rehman Khagga and Muhammad Yunis participated in the meeting.

Secretary Schools Education Punjab explained the legal framework for private educational institutions in the province.

He said that complaints lodged by parents about the fee increase were addressed regularly.

He said taking notice of violation of the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion Regulations) Amended Ordinance 2017, the

Punjab chief minister had desired review of the situation and sought recommendations for a more effective regulatory regime and enforcement mechanism to fully implement all sections of the relevant regulations in letter and spirit.

The ACS Punjab proposed reorganisation of district enforcement committees by including deputy commissioners and district police officers as convener and co-convener, respectively.

The recommendations would be submitted to the chief minister Punjab for approval. – APP
