Shooting leaves cop martyred, 3 injured
ISLAMABAD – A police officer was martyred while trying to arrest the fleeing gunmen after launching armed attack on management of a private housing society in the federal capital, informed a police spokesman on Saturday.
According to the spokesman, incident took place within the limits of police station Bhara Kahu. The accused identified as Sher Khan along with his armed accomplices launched an armed attack on staff members of a private housing society in Bhara Kahu. He informed that on receiving the information, Sub Inspector Liaquat Ali started chasing the fleeing gunmen.
The gunmen fired at the police team injuring SI Liaquat Ali, who was rushed to hospital where he embraced martyrdom. The police managed to shoot and injure the fleeing gunman Sher Khan and arrested him, while his cohort managed to escape. The police launched a massive search operation in the area to arrest the other culprits.
The spokesman added that three other persons also sustained bullet injuries during the incident.
Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad, Muhammad Ahsan Younas paid tribute to SI Liaquat Ali while attending his funeral prayers at Police Line Headquarters.
A large number of senior police officials also attended the funeral prayers. Guard of honour was paid to martyred police official and his body was sent to his native village Sohan, Rawalpindi for burial.
