ISLAMABAD – The administration of Islamabad Thursday announced that local markets, shopping centres and shops would remain closed on Friday and Saturday instead of Saturday and Sunday as part of the government’s measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat made this announcement while appealing to the residents of capital to cooperate with the administration at a time when there is sharp rise in new cases of deadly virus.
He said that the decision has been taken in consultations with the local traders’ community and following a decision of the administration of Rawalpindi that holiday in the markets would be observed on Friday and Saturday.
Earlier, National Command and Operation Centre had decided that all federating units and provincial governments will observe two safe days per week at their own choice in those areas where there is high rate of positivity.
