The odd departure of the JI from MMA in Buner

  • July 23, 2018

Buner is where the worst differences surface in the alliance of the MMA as one of its members, the Jamaat-e-Islami, is standing under the banner of the PML-N.
Analysts believe that on the NA-9 Buner seat, the JI and PML-N’s “joint candidate” Kamran Khan and the ANP’s Haji Abdur Rauf may stand first and second in the general election.

It is expected that independent Mian Moinuddin and PTI’s Sher Akbar Khan, an electable, may give each other a tough time.
Sher Akbar is a former member of parliament from the JI.
The four candidates on NA-9 are Kamran Khan, the ANP’s Haji Rauf, the PTI’s Sher Akbar, Mian Moinnuddin – the disgruntled PTI member running as an independent.
Buner district has three seats – PK-20, PK-21 and PK-22.
For PK-20, independent Bakht Jehan (said to be a joint candidate of the PML-N and the JI), and the ANP’s Bakht Afsar Khan are expected to fight it out. The MMA’s Fazal Ghafoor also has considerable influence in the constituency.

For PK-21, we have independent Nasar Ali (said to be a “joint candidate”), while the ANP has fielded Qaiser Wali and the PTI has given a ticket to Syed Fakhr-e-Jehan. All three are likely to give each other a tough time.
For PK-22, the ANP’s former parliamentary leader Sardar Hussain Babak, the independent Raj Wali Khan and the PTI’s Abdul Kabir Khan are prime contenders. Analysts see the real contest taking place between the ANP and JI-PML-N candidates.
