Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed is contesting the general election from NA-60 and NA-62 in Rawalpindi.
The garrison city’s veteran politician is famous for his populist style. He kicked off his election campaign in a theatrical way, making rotis at tandoors and riding a motorcycle with his supporters.
“Although this area is ‘masail-istan’ [a hub of problems], we have resolved many of them. We have resolved the education issue, got a new hospital…now we have to solve the water issue,” he said.
“Nearly 200 million gallons of water will be fetched daily from the Ghazi-Barotha hydropower project,” he said, referring to a future project in Rawalpindi.
Confident of his victory, Rashid claimed that his party will secure more than 100,000 votes from each constituency on election day.
