ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Friday called upon people to vote for his party’s candidate in the by-election of NA-120, saying it would strengthen the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
“Your vote will decide the direction of Pakistan. It will strengthen the supreme court of Pakistan,” said Khan, while addressing a gathering of supporters in NA-120, Lahore.
The seat fell vacant after the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as a result of Supreme Court’s verdict in the Panama Papers case.
Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of deposed prime minister, and Dr Yasmim Rashid of PTI are running for the vacant National Assembly seat. PPP has also fielded its own candidate.
“This dacoit on the GT road was asking why he has been thrown out of the PM House. What Nawaz Sharif meant by “mujhay kiyun nikala” was that, no powerful has ever been punished why me?
He was ousted for submitting forged documents, faked letters and made up Qatari stories, Khan said.
“Will you vote for the man who’d been given a year by the apex court to prove his innocence?,” he questioned.
“We’re entering a new Pakistan, the beginning of a new era. Your vote will be a vote against the loot and plunder.”
“We were waiting for so long for the powerful to be brought to justice. The powerful had never been brought to justice in Pakistan ever.”
Khan urged his supporters to reach polling stations on 17th, exercise their right to vote and prevent rigging.
Commenting on his party’s performance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said security situation has improved in the province and tourism industry was flourishing.
“The condition of schools has improved and now children are moving from private to government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added.
“I salute Dr Yasmin Rashid for her fight as it is not easy, its tough because it’s against provincial and federal government.”
