Pamela Chopra, wife of late Yash Chopra, passes away

Pamela Chopra, the multitalented Indian playback singer, writer, and wife of the late renowned filmmaker Yash Chopra, passed away at a hospital in Mumbai at the age of 74. Pamela had been battling pneumonia and ARDS for the past 15 days and succumbed to the illness on Thursday morning. Her last rites were performed at 11 am, as stated in a release by Yash Raj Films.

Pamela Chopra was a beloved figure in the Indian film industry, having contributed immensely to the world of music and writing. Her passing has left many celebrities and fans in mourning. Several actors, including Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar, and many others, took to social media to express their condolences and share fond memories of working with Pamela and her son, Aditya Chopra. Hrithik Roshan and his father Rakesh Roshan were among the few celebrities who attended her funeral.

“My heart is heavy with the news of Pamela aunty’s passing,” tweeted Sanjay Dutt. “Her impact on the industry and the lives she touched will always be remembered.”

“Today, Pam jee the better half of Shri Yash Chopra has passed away,” wrote Javed Akhtar. “She was a great lady. Intelligent, educated, warm and witty. Those who like me have worked closely with Yash jee know about her contribution to his scripts and music. She was an exceptional person.”

“My thoughts and prayers are with [Aditya Chopra], Rani (Mukherji), Uday (Chopra) and all members of the Chopra family in their hour of grief. RIP respected Pam Chopra jee,” penned Ajay Devgn. 

Salman Khan reportedly cancelled the celebrity screening of his film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan as a mark of respect for Pamela Chopra. Her last public appearance was in the Netflix special, The Romantics.

The Chopra family issued a statement thanking everyone for their prayers and requesting privacy during this time of deep sadness and reflection. Pamela Chopra’s passing is a significant loss to the Indian film industry, and her contributions will be remembered for years to come.
