PISA 2021 red carpet fashion: Too much of the same

  • November 07, 2021

If there is one thing the PISA 2021 red carpet fashion made abundantly clear, it is that there really can be too much of a good thing. Taking a cue from the success of Dur e Fishan Saleem’s hit purple silk sari at this year’s LSAs, three separate celebrities chose to don the exact same outfit, down to the cut of the blouse and the draping of the palu, with the only distinguishing factor being the colour they chose. While it’s difficult to go wrong with something as classic and beautiful as a silk sari, the monotony of outfits made this year’s PISA red carpet a fairly boring one. With most celebrities choosing to play it safe, there truly isn’t much to write home about when it comes to red carpet fashion at the event.

Hania Amir

There’s no doubt about the fact that the starlet looked beautiful, but the uniformity of looks at the awards drowned out any winning features in Hania’s outfit. The colour is gorgeous, and the fact that the actor chose to pair the muted shade of the sari with a bright red pout is a great way to elevate an otherwise plain outfit.

Sana Javed

In a pretty much identical outfit to Hania’s, save for the difference in colour, with Sana sporting a deep green instead, there isn’t much to say about this look that hasn’t been said already. Sana’s choice to go completely jewellery-free is one that doesn’t quite do the already basic outfit any real favours. The addition of a choker or a set of chandelier earrings could have made the look far more interesting.

Sonya Hussyn

Same look, different colour… again. For any kind of commentary on this outfit, please refer to the previous two paragraphs. Nothing has changed.

Iqra Aziz

The fact that Iqra chose to go for a different material for her sari and opted for a more traditional vibe is one that can be appreciated given the uniformity in the previous three outfits. The Jhooti actor opted for a pink and sea green banarsi sari, choosing to accessorise it with a heavy gold choker and hair slicked back in a tight bun. Yasir Hussain opted for a basic black sherwani and white pajama combo, which complimented Iqra’s outfit well enough.

Fehmeen Ansari

The Model of the Year winner dressed up in a sequined gold number with a slit running up the leg. The look was clean and sharp, and the gold monochrome made for an outfit well-suited to the red carper. The dangly earrings and pin-straight hair also helped maintain the slick silhouette.

Ushna Shah

Kudos to Ushna Shah for doing something a little bit different than everyone else. The actor opted for a textured black gown cinched at the waist with a bejewelled belt. While the outfit feels like it would be better suited to colder months, the effort can be appreciated.

Nimra Jacob

The model donned a red lace gown with a slit running up the leg, pairing it with nude heels and a curly mane. Nimra went for soft makeup and minimal jewellery, playing it safe in almost every department.
