Saif Ali Khan thinks people behind Bollywood boycott trends are ‘not genuine’

  • November 22, 2022

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who recently came back to screens with Vikram Vedha alongside Hrithik Roshan, has opinions on why his film failed to boast numbers at the box office. The actor deemed the people behind the recent boycott trends as “not genuine.”

As per Times of India, Saif, at a promotional event, exclaimed that a section is using the industry’s “bad” films as a “launchpad” for their constant hate. However, he feels that such people are anyway not what he would call a “genuine audience.”

He, albeit, placed the blame on the industry for not keeping a united front. “Until they [the Bollywood fraternity] have the ability to take that step, one will never really know the truth of how effective the boycott culture is. It is scary and a worldwide phenomenon.”

Saif believes it helps if the actors keep a low profile now and stay out of controversies. But that obviously affects marketing. “It is just obviously simpler to keep a low profile and get it [the film’s release] out of the way.”

The Cocktail actor also lamented the high fees of lead actors that play a role in the making of the films budget high that eventually make the film a failure if it doesn’t perform “decently” at the box office. “It’s extremely disappointing to see poor box office numbers of big-budget films,” he said adding that he realised this after wondering why a film like Vikram Vedha didn’t pull in good numbers at the ticket window.

He further added that the makers expected Vikram Vedha to do well, but didn’t and that nowadays nobody has a clue about what works and what doesn’t. However, about the recurrent box office failures in Bollywood, Khan opined that while people will continue to make movies, prices will keep fluctuating because of the insane economical conditions. “We pay people astronomically and the returns have been not good. Only 2 percent of the population actually pays to watch films and today if that 2% increases by 20 percent, it could make it a wealthy industry,” he concluded.
