Taylor Swift calls out Netflix’s ‘Ginny & Georgia’ over sexist remarks

  • March 03, 2021

Streaming service Netflix’s new drama Ginny Georgia has stirred up the showbiz community ever since it was released initially. The series revolves around a dysfunctional relationship between a mother and daughter who have a secret past. Now, where have we heard another touching story of a mother and daughter? Yup, Gilmore Girls comes to mind.

But it isn’t just the comparisons to Gilmore that has got everyone talking about Ginny Georgia. Some of the jokes in the show have brought it immense criticism. Most recently, the Netflix series got called out by Shake It Off songstress, Taylor Swift, reported Vulture.

Swift, who is an avid social media user, took it to Twitter and said, “Hey Ginny Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard-working women by defining this horse crap as ‘funny?’ Also, Netflix, after Miss Americana, this outfit doesn’t look cute on you. Happy Women’s History Month, I guess.”

The finale episode of the trending series featured 16-year-old Ginny mocking her 30-year-old mother Georgia saying, “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.” This has sparked multiple online debates, mainly about how a teenager should behave with their parent and of course, the shade thrown at Swift for no reason. Netizens have categorised the dialogue as a ‘misogynist’ joke that Netflix needs to remove from the show.
