It’s Railways historic achievement, says Shahid

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways Sports Board (PRSB) considers its third position in the just concluded 33th National Games held at Peshawar as a historic achievement.

PRSB President Shahid Aziz stated this during a press conference here at the Railway Stadium on Tuesday.He said that since the inception of the National Games five decades ago, Railways never rose to the level in the country’s sports it did this time. He further stated that the Railways’ achievement has coupled with the combined efforts of PRSB management, dedication of its affiliated human resource in the preparation and participation in the games.

He further informed that Railway athletes won in all 108 medals with three gold medals in rowing (men and women), five silver and 15 bronze, four gold in weightlifting, two silver and nine bronze, one gold in taekwondo, two silver and 13 bronze, one gold in karate and wushu each, two silver each and nine bronze respectively, table tennis one gold and one bronze, tug of war one gold, hockey bronze, bodybuilding one silver and three bronze, judo three silver and eight bronze, squash silver, boxing one silver and bronze, cycling two bronze, rugby women bronze, gymnastic bronze and wrestling two silver and two bronze.

PRSB Vice President Hamdan Nazir also highlighted the achievement of Railway sportspersons during the National Games despite financial constraints.He added that medal winners of National Games will be honoured shortly and will be awarded cash prizes.
