Pakistan finish with 58 medals

KARACHI: Pakistan finished with 58 medals at the Special Olympic World Games 2019, which concluded here in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. According to results, Nouman Riaz won silver in 800m category with the timing of 00:02:21.36.
In the women’s long jump category, Farzana Rehmat claimed gold medal with the score of 2.79m and Malika Younus Masih won silver with the score of 3.31m. In the men’s 4×100 meter relay, Pakistan’s team comprising Hur Mushtaq, Nouman Riaz, Mohammad Ammar Shahid, and Zohaib Ishfaq won gold medal with the timing of 00:00:56.02. In the women’s event, Syeda Humaira Kazim, Syeda Shumaila Rubab, Farzana Rehmat and Malika Younus won silver with the timing of 00:01:07.35.
Syeda Humaira also featured in the team that had won bronze in 200m sprint race. She said winning bronze was “like a dream coming true” for her. “It’s dream coming true for me. I’m extremely happy to be a part of the Special Olympics World Games, especially after bagging the bronze medal,” she said.
The Karachi-based athlete used to train for hours each day before the World Games, travelling from her home to National Stadium in order to use the training facilities. She hoped that more success on the track will follow in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the pair of Mohammad Umer and Mahnoor Farooq clinched silver in the badminton doubles event by defeating the team from Cote D’Ivoire 2-1. In Bocce, the pair of Hina Arif and Nimra Tariq won gold for Pakistan with 11 points. The pair of Mohammad Anas and Mohammad Faraz Shah won gold with 12 points in men’s event of the same sport. Cyclist Samreen Afzal won bronze with timing of 00:02:09.16 in Fin 1k Time Trial (regular and modified).
In powerlifting squat, Rizwan Sahid won silver by collecting 120 points. Syed Mohammad Mujtaba Kazmi claimed silver with 145 points in deadlift category. The pair of Um-e-Laiba Kazmi and Asma won bronze medal in the table tennis women’s doubles competition. Faisal Khan and Sajida Bibi won gold in men’s and women’s singles tennis events, respectively.
