One of Chitral’s coolest restaurants has been sealed

The local administration in Chitral has sealed a restaurant near the airport because of the security risks it presents.

The Fokker Friendship Restaurant is built inside a decommissioned plane. The plane, a decommissioned Fokker F-27, was grounded by the PIA in 2004 and obtained by a former pilot, who converted it into a restaurant.

But the authorities aren’t as taken with his whimsical restaurant as diners are. They say it’s too close to the Chitral airport runway and presents a security risk under Rule 68 of the Civil Aviation Rule, 1994. When viewed from above, the restaurant looks like a plane has crashed.

The Lower Chitral Deputy Commissioner Khurshid Alam Mahsud, has issued a notification to seal the restaurant. The authorities want it to be relocated.

But another problem is that the owner, Sirajul Mulk, wasn’t able to present papers proving his ownership of the decommissioned plane.
