CDA plans high quality bus service for Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) administration is considering a bus project to provide modern and quality travel facilities to the citizens of Islamabad.

The proposed project “Islamabad Bus Service” will be launched after final approval of the federal cabinet, said the officials on Tuesday. Initially, 30 buses will be added to the project, the number of which will be increased soon. The service will start from Swan Interchange to Faisal Masjid, Bhara Kahu to Faiz Ahmed Faiz Metro Bus Station and Tarnol Railway Station to N-5 Metro Bus Station. There will be 64 stops (stations) on the routes and modern and strict security arrangements will be made at every bus stop with tuck shops and public toilets facility, said the officials.

An important meeting was held here on Tuesday under the chair of Chairman CDA Amir Ali Ahmed in which all the CDA Board members participated. The project summary will be sent to the federal cabinet for final approval, they decided. It should be noted that all the buses will have air conditioning and each bus will have a seating capacity of 70 persons, while the buses will also have priority seats for women and special persons. The buses will run from Monday to Friday between 6:30am to 9pm, while on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 10pm. The timing of the buses may be changed according to the public needs, said the officials. 

They further said that separate parking areas and depots will be constructed for the three bus routes. Besides, filling stations would be set up for buses and general public would also benefit from these fuel stations. In addition, sign boards for advertisements will be installed at every bus station which will help generate revenue. The CDA administration will purchase buses, build bus stations, renovate them, build depots and parking areas, while the project will be overseen by the Metro Command and Control Centre. The project will be opened for the public by December after formal approval by the federal cabinet, said the officials.
